News

Reading:  This week we worked on poetry and figurative language. Some types of figurative language we covered are: similies, metaphors, hyperboles, alliteration, and onomatopoeia. We also read and wrote several poems. Ask your child to tell you about some of the poems he or she wrote!

Math: In Math, we began working on Module 7. In this module students are learning about measuring, money, and graphing. This past week we learned how to make bar graphs, picture graphs, and tables. Next week we will be focusing on learning how to use a graph or table to answer questions about a given set of data. Visit the math section of our website to read more about what we are working on!

Writing:  In Writing, we began working on writing about our opinions. We discussed cats vs. dogs and Summer vs. Winter. Students chose a side and tried to convince their classmates to move to the other side. We also learned how to give reasons that support our opinions. Next week, we will be writing our opinions about the best type of plant.

Science: We continued our plant unit! This week we learned how a plant changes the way it grows so that it can get what it needs (light, water, nutrients, etc.).  We also discovered that ALL plants need sun, water, space, minerals and nutrients, and water. The big thing to remember, however, is that not all plants need the same amounts Next week we will continue our unit by learning about plant adapt to their habitat.

Birthdays!

We love celebrating birthdays in second grade!

Our school policy, however, does not allow food treats to be brought into the classroom. If your child would still like to bring in a treat, non-food items may be brought in. Examples include pencils, erasers, bookmarks, stickers, etc.

Snacks

Allergy Note

Everyday in second grade we enjoy a snack. Water bottles will be allowed as long as they do not become a distraction. Please encourage your student to bring in a healthy snack each day to enjoy as we work.
