Please notify the office if your child will not be attending school. Vacation days must be approved by the principal and vacation request forms can be found in the front office.

Celebrating birthdays is very exciting! Our school policy, however, does not allow food items to be brought into the classroom. Acceptable non-food items are welcomed such as pencils, erasers, stickers, a donation of a class book, etc.

Kindergarten:  In math, students order, count, and write up to ten objects to answer “how many?” questions from linear, to array, to circular, and finally to scattered configurations wherein they must devise a path through the objects as they count.

Second grade: In this module, students expand their skill with and understanding of units by bundling ones, tens, and hundreds up to a thousand with straws and using them to complete problems throughout the module.

In writing, we are using sentence starters and prompts to write sentences.  We are focusing on using finger spaces, forming our letters, and making sure our sentences make sense.   We will begin narrative writing, where students share what they have done the previous weekend.

In reading, we have been focusing on breaking apart words, rhyming, and sight words.  In guided reading we will be working on tracking our reading, finding patterns in books, and using pictures to help us read.  Please make sure to have your child read the book in their book bag to you every night and then send it back to school the following day.

About The Teacher

I am excited to begin another year at Emerson!  I have been working in Elmhurst District 205 for the last eleven years.  I graduated from DePaul with my degree in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in Special Education.  I received my Master’s Degree from at Northeastern Illinois University in Special Education as a Learning Behavior Specialist, and also have my ELL endorsement.

My husband, Dan, and I both grew up in Elmhurst.  We have two energetic and adorable kids- Lyla (4) and Connor (2).   I am looking forward to helping the students grow and flourish this year!
